The Principality of Klantyre is a region of hills and lowland plains in northern Glantri, with a large dwarven population. It is ruled by the mad, ghostly prince Brannart McGregor of the House of Crownguard, who rarely leaves his tower. (Crownguard refers to the large castle in Glenmoorloch that is the Prince’s ruling seat, which is also linked to the Radiance.) Other influential clans of Klantyre include the McDuffs, the Stewarts, the McAllisters, the McDougalls and the McCrae. The First Bank of Glantri is the real power in Klantyre, with many influential clans having strong ties to the bank. Necromancy is legal in Klantyre, with many ghosts, spectres and wraiths being employed by the First Bank, in particular working as vault guardians or debt collectors. The undead of Klantyre are ‘cold undead’ (e.g. ghosts, shadows) are strongly repelled by the ‘warm undead’ (e.g. vampires) who require blood and expenditure of mortal life to survive. In particular, Klantyre is strongly opposed to the vampiric Principality of Boldavia and the domination of the living by the vampires. The ghosts of Klantyre are secretive and tend to keep to themselves, focused on bank or clan business and do not openly rule or appear in Klantyre’s day-to-day life. Many of them are linked to secret ancestor veneration rites and rituals practised by the clans, replacing general religion in the province.
The dwarves who settled in Klantyre were originally exiled from Rockhome several hundred years ago for wanting to practise magic, or at least make magical artefacts that angered the more conservative ancestors.
The ruling clan is MacGregor, who hold the siege of Crownguard. Upon the exile, MacGregor was the highest ranking clan at the time and in the dwarfmoot, Brannat MacGregor defeated other challenges to assure the steady dominance of the MacGregor clan.
